Have you ever smelled a photograph? I looked at the image and heard your friends laughing. Did you feel the delicate fabric of the dress under your fingers? Imagine that all these little things that make your heart beat faster will stay with you forever.

My name is Kaja, and I’m a wedding photographer currently based in Lisbon, Portugal.
With a wild soul, I follow people and stories from the colorful streets of Marrakech to the undiscovered roads of Bali, and nothing is too far or impossible for me. I believe that the most important moments are also the shortest, and making them last longer is one of the most beautiful things that we can do.

My wedding photography style is bold, playful, and fashionable, but with a good pinch of documentary. This way, I can promise my couples beautiful and very cool, but also real and authentic wedding photo stories, showing joy, love, dance floor madness, and your gorgeous shoes.

INTERVIEW

Who are you? Describe yourself in a few words.

Hi! I'm Kaja, a photographer but also a nomad, a traveler, a woman, an artist, a dreamer, and most importantly, a human. The one who will take crazy beautiful, bold, and emotional photos of you and will make a big part of them look like a magazine cover.

Do you believe in destiny?

No. But I believe that we usually get what we ask for.

Do you ever create hidden meanings or messages in your work? Explain.

I believe that there are many hidden meanings and messages in my work. But what can feel funny or surprising… they are usually hidden from me. Because I don’t know. I can assume or guess why your friends are laughing, your mom is wearing yellow or your dad picked a tie with a croissant print. And the best possible thing I can do is to capture all these things in the best and most beautiful way possible. So you know.

What made you decide to follow a creative career choice (though possibly risky) rather than something more stable?

I often hear that I’m very brave. I’m not. I belive that It’s very brave to reject the risk and to accept the fact that there might be no surprises. I would be terrified and this is the reason why I’m doing things that I’m doing. Because I’m a chicken and I’m scared of my future self.

What is your inspiration? How has personal experience influenced your creativity?

Traveling and humans. Seeing people of different nationalities and coming from different cultures getting together always leaves me breathless. I’ve photographed families not speaking a word of the same language and still creating invisible bonds between each other, different kinds of love, skin tones, and ceremonies. And every single one of them had a massive impact on my work and the way I see the world.

Have you always wanted to do what you are doing?

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a writer. I loved reading and I used to believe that this was the best way to travel, learn, and experience. Reading and writing was like living a new life every few days.

Later I discovered photography, plane tickets, and watching sunsets by the ocean and everything changed. Now I live my real, creative, and adventurous life but also little pieces of my couple’s stories and I’m very grateful for this twist.

Is there a particular place where you feel most creative?

I was very disappointed to find out that cognitive psychologist Scott Barry Kaufman found that 72% of people get creative ideas in the shower. Before I used to think that it was my very special secret hack.

What is your mission in this life?

To feel and experience as much as possible. And to make people around me feel and experience too.

Do you believe art should deliver a message?

I love it when it does. But I don’t think it has to. Sometimes all you need to know is already in you and art is a bright, single ray of sunlight illuminating your inner letter box.
